The Comets Radio Control flying Club is a non-profit recreation association organized to support participation in the radio controlled model aircraft hobby. The club was chartered in 1965 as Club #0173 by the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA)

    FAA Registration Required to Fly

    Register under Section 336 for recreational users, NOT Part 107 for commercial users.

     

    The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires all RC pilots who fly outdoors to be Certified. They have classified all fixed wing RC aircraft as drones, along with single rotor helicopters, and multirotor drones. Virtually everyone who flies RC outdoors has to obtain this certification. The sUAS Number needs to be in plain sight on the external surface of your model during flight. You can simply write it on the bottom of the wing with a Sharpie marker or number on a piece of masking tape and tape it on.  However you do it, the sUAS Number is only required to be on your aircraft during flight, and may be removed while it is on the ground.

Our Flying Field

TJ Moran Memorial Field

11311 Santa Ana Rd
Ventura, CA 93001

The TJ Moran Memorial Field is located within the Lake Casitas Recreation Area.

Directions: Head North out of Ventura on US 101 and take Hwy 33 toward Ojai. Exit on Casitas Vista Rd, then turn right on Santa Ana Rd and follow the signs to the Lake Casitas Recreation Area.  Once inside the gate turn right and follow the signs to the Model Airstrip and Campground Osprey.  Please observe the 15 MPH speed limit. Refer to the maps to the right.

Access to the flying field by car is restricted to club members with the current combination for the gate lock.  AMA membership is required for anyone flying at the field for insurance coverage.

We meet at the Oak View Community Center every odd month, on the third Thursday, from 7PM-8:30 PM
